SPOTLIGHT ON THE EVENT SHOW

Spotlight PR Ltd has been awarded the contract to manage the public relations campaign for The Event Show exhibition for the fourth consecutive year. The award-winning Lancashire based agency, which specialises in leisure and entertainment, has worked as part of The Event Show team helping to significantly raise the profile of the Show and its exhibitors.

The 2009 exhibition will be held at Olympia in London on the 21st and 22nd January and is widely acknowledged for attracting the movers and shakers involved in the indoor and outdoor events industry.

Michelle Tayton, manager of The Event Show said: “We are very happy to appoint Spotlight again to manage the show’s PR. In recent years, in addition to coverage in the event industry’s trade press, Spotlight has done a great job in generating considerable awareness in the consumer media via The Evening Standard, MTV, BBC Radio 2 Chris Evans Show, Virgin Radio, the Press Association and international media.”

Marina Blore, director of Spotlight PR believes that the re-appointment of the agency for this London based contract proves the point that many companies are no longer concerned about where a public relations company is based.

“Despite being based in Lancashire, it goes without saying that if we didn’t have national and international media contacts we would never survive,” said Marina.

Past speakers at The Event Show have included Glastonbury’s Michael Eavis and John Probyn from Live Nation. There are free seminars from industry experts including audio-visual specialists, catering companies, health and safety representatives, as well as advice on the environmental impact of staging events.

The exhibition has continued to grow in stature. It is well respected by professional event organisers who visit from companies including the BBC, ITV, Mercedes-Benz High Performance and T-Mobile, leading charities such Cancer Research and The Princes Trust and major high street banks and city councils. Exhibitors are unanimous in their opinion that the show attracts high quality visitors all of whom are interested in doing serious business, with many placing orders during the two day Show. Last year also saw a record number of companies use The Event Show as a launch pad to reveal new products.

Spotlight PR’s sister company Showbizworks.com, one of the world’s leading online entertainment agencies which has offices in London and Lancashire, also manages the exhibition’s Live Stage entertainment. Last year, for the first time ever at an exhibition of this kind and in conjunction with the show’s entertainment based exhibitors, named artistes including Alexander O’Neal, The Drifters, Rowetta and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Damon Scott showcased their corporate performances for event organisers. The celebrity names ensured a packed crowd and a standing ovation for the artistes.

FOCUS ON QUALITY PAYS OFF FOR THE EVENT SHOW

Exhibitors at The Event Show have declared the 2008 exhibition a resounding success with almost all mentioning the very high quality of visitors as the defining factor.

With the exhibition industry often on the verge of obsession with visitor figures, The Event Show team is delighted that the figures have shown similar numbers to last year, welcoming over 4,000 people through the doors of Olympia over the two days

Michelle Tayton, manager of The Event Show explained: “So often we hear claims of significant increases in visitor numbers year on year to exhibitions, but this really is irrelevant if those people are not serious buyers. There are only so many people working in the industry and our visitor list reads like a who’s who in events and these people have actually placed orders during and straight after the exhibition. We have fulfilled one of our main objectives to deliver revenue straight into our exhibitors’ pockets, which has resulted in a 20% increase on re-bookings for next year’s Show.”

Ben Irvin, an exhibitor at The Event Show and director of Irvin Amusements said: “Whilst there is often volume of visitors at some exhibitions, this is without doubt the best exhibition for quality of leads and all the people are nice to work with.”

Shaun Westerman, marketing manager for Themes Inc added his endorsement: “Brilliant! A very, very good Show. This is our 11th or 12th year at The Event Show and it is definitely quality and quantity. The first day was excellent and the second day didn’t dip. We have already re-booked for next year.”

The now much acclaimed Access Sessions were once again well received with predictably packed audiences for the presentation by Barry Baker, the Health and Safety Executive’s Head of Entertainment and Leisure Section.

Meanwhile, the focus on quality continued on the LIVEstage managed by Showbizworks.com which claimed a major exhibition first with named artistes performing live for event organisers. These included X Factor finalist Rowetta, Damon Scott from Britain’s Got Talent and System 1 Management presented The Drifters and Alexander O’Neal, which resulted in hundreds of visitors clamouring for clear sightlines to video performances on their mobile phones!

In line with The Event Show’s commitment to be the first to bring new products and services to visitors, this year saw no less than 25 new launches at the exhibition. For the first time ever the Show’s organisers launched a competition to find the most innovative product. Surrey based Magnet Schultz was awarded the prize which included free space at the exhibition. The company has created the Electro Kabuki, judged to be the product to make the biggest impact on the events industry through the intelligent use of technology. Developed following extensive consultation with the theatre and events industries, the Electro Kabuki has been designed to reliably release weights of up to 50kg and is suitable for applications where the requirement is to discharge or drop drapes, dummies or cables on cue for the perfect reveal.

So with exhibitors already having secured orders from companies such as Mercedes McLaren, The Event Show continues to retain its position as the exhibition that delivers the movers and shakers to exhibitors.

Next year The Event Show will take place on 21st and 22nd of January 2009 at Olympia. For more information email: sarah.brownlee@oceanmedia.co.uk or log on to www.eventshow.co.uk

THE EVENT SHOW OFFERS FREE SUPPORT TO THE MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT

In an unprecedented move The Event Show, which takes place at Olympia in London on the 23rd and 24th January 2008, has announced a competition offering free space to one company to launch what must be an innovative or revolutionary product for the event industry.

The Event Show is generally regarded as the industry’s leading exhibition for indoor and outdoor event organisers, attracting the big hitters from companies including the BBC Worldwide, Live Nation, major financial institutions and councils from all over the country. Market research has shown that 73% of visitors attend The Event Show to be inspired by new ideas. So organisers are keen to remain at the cutting edge and this promotion is focusing on unearthing some exciting new ideas, products or services that will benefit the event industry and that will be seen for the first time at the Show.

Michelle Tayton, manager of The Event Show said: “We are keen to maintain our reputation as the provider of inspirational ideas to event organisers, constantly introducing new exhibitors with products that haven’t been seen elsewhere. We appreciate that launching a new product is a costly exercise and we would like to provide the springboard for one company to access key buyers in the industry, to sell face to face and to showcase their product or service to the media for the first time at The Event Show. Over 40% of our visitors spend more than £100,000 on events annually and our chosen winner will be given space in the Innovation Zone. We anticipate that this amazing offer will attract some fantastic and previously unseen ideas from all over the world.”

Companies should email information regarding their product or service to michelle.tayton@oceanmedia.co.uk or post to Michelle Tayton, Ocean Media Group Ltd, Bank House, 23 Warwick Road, Coventry CV1 2EW. The winning company will be notified by December 7th 2007. Space at the exhibition will be provided free of charge but promotional literature, displays, staff, travel and accommodation must be provided by the winning company.

Almost half the visitors to The Event Show are looking for live entertainment for events. So, continuing its focus on providing visitors with new ideas, The Event Show is also offering one free twenty minute performance slot on each of the two days of the exhibition to ground-breaking entertainers on its LIVEstage, which showcases artistes suitable for the corporate hospitality industry. Again, the focus is on artistes that offer something different, or new and emerging performers for indoor or outdoor events. Artistes should send information to info@showbizworks.com the company managing the LIVEstage with full information about their act, experience and confirmation that they hold full public liability insurance.

SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS AT SOUTHPORT FLOWER SHOW

Following another successful year of high profile media coverage on radio, television and in national and regional press, Southport Flower Show has confirmed that Spotlight PR will be back on board for the third year running in 2007. This year’s four day event saw national media coverage with Show opener Diarmuid Gavin and the naming of ‘The Eppie Gavin Rose’ in honour of the maverick gardener’s 20 month old daughter. Spotlight PR director Marina Blore explained: “We discovered that Eppie had been refused entry to Chelsea Flower Show as they don’t admit young children. As Southport Flower Show is heavily committed to attracting the family market and welcomes children with open arms by providing live entertainment throughout the event for youngsters, we thought that it would be great to mark Eppie’s very first visit ever to a Flower Show by naming a rose after her.”

Diarmuid said: “We were overwhelmed, thank you so much, Southport Flower Show will now always hold a special place in our hearts. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Southport Flower Show because it is for people who are into basic gardening and the atmosphere is fantastic. At some of the bigger Royal Horticultural Shows those traditional gardening skills aren’t celebrated, so it’s refreshing to come to Southport to be able to enjoy them. We were extremely impressed and we will definitely be back.”

Spotlight also arranged for Russell Grant to host the Flower Show’s very first Ladies Day through sister company www.showbizworks.com which was a huge success with fashion and hair shows. All tickets for the event sold out, so people should book early for 2007. Next year’s Show takes place on 16, 17th, 18th and 19th August 2007. RECORD NUMBERS FLOCK TO THIS YEAR’S SOUTHPORT FLOWER SHOW

Thousands of visitors poured through the turnstiles at this year’s Southport Flower Show, making it the most successful Show of the new millennium. Despite only one day of sunshine out of four, the crowds seemed undeterred as they shopped till they dropped at what is the UK’s largest independent Flower Show.

Ray Roukin, chairman of the board of trustees said: “This has been a magnificent event, one of the best ever and the positive feedback from our guests and exhibitors has been phenomenal. Many have said that they were impressed with the number of new attractions, the increased amateur marquee and the wide choice of things to do for children such as the Kidz Kr8 marquee, which has proved to be a huge success and something upon which we will expand next year.”

Gloria Hunniford proved to be a popular Show opener and she praised the organisers of the registered charity for staging such an impressive event, without the backing of membership funding or additional financial support.

On Friday it was the turn of maverick garden designer Diarmuid Gavin, the Show’s newest patron, to answer gardening questions and meet visitors for Ladies Day, an idea launched last year with special premium tickets available that include fashion and hair shows, a glass of bubbly with canapés on arrival, as well as access to the Flower Show. This year, the event was staged in a larger marquee and all 200 tickets sold out. True to form, Diarmuid oozed true Irish charm and demonstrated his gift for the blarney, when Debi Jones, the host of Ladies Day, asked him in front of 200 ladies in Ascot style hats what he thought of Southport Flower Show, he replied: “I think all the flowers are in this room!”

As the sun shone down on 34 acres of Victoria Park on the Friday, record numbers reaching 20,000 enjoyed the magnificent blooms in the Grand Floral Marquee, the spectacular show gardens and the non-stop live entertainment on the bandstand, which this year celebrated its 80th anniversary, prompting the Flower Show to choose a theme of music for this year’s event.

On Saturday it was the turn of Show patrons Roddy Llewellyn and David Bellamy to attend question and answer sessions and Granada television presenter Paul Crone was on hand to host the seminars throughout all four days. Actress Roxanne Pallett, who plays Jo Stiles in ITV’s Emmerdale, visited Southport Flower Show in the morning and despite inclement weather she certainly brightened up proceedings, attracting media and public attention as she was presented with her very own deep red, hybrid tea rose, grown by Keith Jones of C&K Jones in Cheshire and now officially registered as “The Roxanne Pallett Rose”.

Today, as the exhibitors dismantle gardens and vacate Victoria Park, there was no rest for the Show’s organisers as they celebrated the first sale of visitor tickets for the 2008 Southport Flower Show. Re-bookings by exhibitors are up on last year, with people wanting to secure the best stand space for the 2008 event, which will take place from 21st until 24th August 2008, when the theme will be Capital of HortiCulture, to tie in with Liverpool’s City of Culture status.

SPOTLIGHT CELEBRATES EXHIBITION CONTRACT WINS

Hot on the heels of being retained for a second year to promote The Event Show at Olympia in London, Spotlight PR has also been re-appointed to manage the public relations campaign for Southport Flower Show for the third consecutive year.

Marina Blore, director of Spotlight PR said: “We are obviously thrilled that two major clients have renewed their contracts with us, which is testimony to the service we have delivered and the coverage we have generated for them. With all our clients, we pride ourselves on our creative, hands-on approach and our ability to really become part of their team to help deliver the clients’ business objectives.”

At The Event Show, which takes place on the 24th and 25th January 2007, the godfather of Glastonbury Michael Eavis, will host a question and answer session as part of the Access Sessions together with John Probyn from Live Nation. Diarmuid, who officially opened the 2006 event said: "It’s a dazzling independent celebration of all things good in gardening and I can't wait for a return visit."
